Heart to Heart

Sources and verification

Sources consulted

  • Pyramide (patience) (new tab) (Wikipedia in French): a family of solitaire games in which cards are laid out overlapping, a card is playable when nothing covers it, and cards are removed two at a time with the help of a stock
  • Pyramid (solitaire) (new tab) (Wikipedia in English): the same family, with details of stock variants (number of passes)
  • Patience (game) (new tab) (Wikipedia in French): French solitaire terminology (tableau, stock, waste, solitaire or patience)

How the examples are verified

Before each publication, a program checks the 3 example deals and every number on the site:

  • the deal is recalculated from its game code, using the same shuffle as the app, and compared with the deal produced by the app's code;
  • 52 cards, all hearts, 4 of each rank: 25 in the heart, 26 in the stock, 1 in the waste;
  • every move in the winning games is replayed, whether a draw or a pair, and must produce the same result as in the app; every game must end in a win;
  • the score, move count and remaining cards are recalculated and compared with those in the app;
  • the deal described as unwinnable was fully explored by the program, without any sequence of moves winning it;
  • the taps shown on the site as having no effect remove nothing in the app, and leave the same card selected;
  • the stated rules (heart shape, free cards, same-rank pairs, stock, scoring and end of game) are checked against the app's code.

Strategy tips are presented as advice, separately from the rules. The winning games were found by a program that tries moves and backtracks: they prove that these deals can be won, not that they are won in the fewest moves. Found an error? Write to us through the contact page.
