Frequently asked questions about Heart to Heart
Is every Heart to Heart deal winnable?
No. Deal HH1-N-AAAAAAC is unwinnable from the start, and the app announces this immediately. Deal HH1-N-AAAAAAM can be won; the Examples page replays it in 87 moves. This site gives no proportion of winnable deals because there is no reliable measurement.
Which cards can you tap?
Only free cards: those no longer covered by any card in the row below. At the start, only the tip of the heart is free. Tapping a covered card does nothing.
Why are all the cards hearts?
The app's deck contains 52 cards, all hearts: 4 copies of each rank, from Ace to King. Only rank matters when forming a pair; there are no suits to keep track of.
Can the stock be recycled when it is empty?
Yes, without limit. When the stock is empty, tapping it returns the waste cards to the stock in the same order, so you can go through it again. Each card turned over and each recycle counts as one move.
How is the score calculated?
Each card removed from the heart scores 10: a pair taken from the heart is worth 20, and a pair using the waste is worth 10. A won game therefore always scores 250. The timer and moves are tracked separately.
What is the game code for?
Each deal has a code, such as HH1-N-AAAAAAM. Typing or pasting it into the New Game window recreates exactly the same layout, so you can replay a deal or share it with someone. The codes on this site come from the app.
Can you undo a move?
Yes, up to the last 100 moves, including draws. Undo returns the cards to their places and deducts the points earned by the pair from the score.
When is the game lost?
When no free card has a possible partner, either free in the heart or in the stock or waste, the app announces that no more moves are possible. You can then undo or start a new game. The game is won when all 25 cards in the heart have been removed.
